Excellent quality, fit perfectly in place. Little nervous about dismantling the rear my new Outback (and my wife was more nervous still), but the video was very clear and complete. Only oddity was the bolts I took out to remove the bumper frame had 17mm head and the bolts supplied to replace them needed 11/16” wrench. Still, all parts needed were there, and the fish wires (I only needed one) were phenomenal, making what would have been the most frustrating part of the job almost comically simple.

I appreciate that you've clearly thought through everything you can provide to make installation easy and successful

Good job Grant, congratulations on your successful install!

Installed on a 2025 Subaru Outback Premium.
First
things first, the provided videos were excellent for installing this thing, except for the exhaust. I wish there was more visuals for this.

A few things:

When removing the fasteners along the wheel well, take pictures of the layout. Knowing the black fabric goes on the inside was golden knowledge when I was later reattaching the fasteners.

When installing the carriage bolt, if you're having issues threading it through, you can bend the wire. You may have to unbend it though when you try to pull the bolt through. I was able to reuse the wire on the right side, but had to pull it off on the left side. Glad there's two.

Torquing the left carriage bolt was an entire endeavor and probably the most exhausting part of this. You need to remove the isolators, but without the exact right fit, I kept slipping.
Even with the isolators removed, the exhaust kept going to the right, pushing my torque wrench and preventing me from doing it correctly.
I eventually ratcheted it down to the left to keep it in place to finally have a good angle at the thing.

The fasteners are annoying to take out and place back in. I recommend using the pry tool and another small pry tool to wrangle each one out. Each one has a internal piece and an outer piece. I had best success with separating them, pushing the outer part in, then the inner piece.

I used Inkscape to design a page with the correct sizing. After cutting, there's about an 1/8" gap, which is great.
I used a Dremel rotary metal cutter to cut it out, then ground it down a bit.

This was orderd for a 2024 Subaru Outback. I had just changed the hydrologic drive belt on a ZT lawnmower, and the installation of the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver was by far the easier of the two tasks. The videos combined with the instruction sheet were very helpful. I really appreciate the included 2 fishing wires for the installation. It could be helpful if they would also include a drawn to scale printed template to use for the small section of the fascia that needs to be trimmed/cut.
Placed the order on Sunday afternoon, reciced an email that the order had been processed and the item was ready for shipping that same day. Hitch arrived on Wednesday. My wife is very pleased with her birthday present. Thank you to all the team etrailer!

by:

The hitch seems very heavy duty and installed according to directions…. Was very pleased with how everything worked and lined up however, if it was just 2 1/2 inches higher, it would be nearly identical to the factory hitch and give even more ground clearance! And then for the price I would’ve given it six stars??
It is hard to justify spending $550 on the factory hitch just for an additional 2 1/2 inches

by:

Just done with install, I’ve had some experience with the front bumper on a 99’ and found this install straight forward. The videos nailed it, shipping was super fast and emails with each step. I think a strap or something to help the hitch from sliding around in the box would benefit the handlers, box had forklift fork holes and part of the hitch was outside the box(no damage and it’s behind the bumper) All in all would use e trailer again and recommend, looks nice installed

by:

The hitch installation on my 2021 Subaru Outback XT took about 45 minutes. I watched the install video, gathered the required tools and got to work. Everything went together perfectly. So glad I installed the hitch myself.

After a year of use the hitch on my Outback is still looking and functioning like the day it was installed.

by:

etrailer is excellent as an online retailer for auto parts. I’m disappointed that my Curt hitch didn’t precisely line up with the holes on my base model 2020 Subaru Outback. I had to make slight refinements to the factory holes with a dremel. The videos show a higher trim model than mine, so I’m guessing that maybe this was the issue. It was close enough, but slightly annoying.

by:

The hitch is very well built. Pretty easy to install. If you aren’t too familiar with taking off bumper fascia, use a second pair of hands, so you don’t scratch it. The final result looks good, most of the hitch is hidden nicely. The wiring kit was decent a little too short of a T connection. Would have been nice to have more length between the Curt harness connections on both the left and right sides.

That is great to hear! I am glad it got to you quickly and you were able to install it yourself. What are you planning on using the hitch for?

by:

Super easy instal on the Outback Wilderness. About an hour and a half. Don’t have to take off the the exhaust.

by:

C67JR Hitch on a 2025 Outback.
Very happy
with the hitch. Watched a couple of videos, and installation (mechanically) was pretty straightforward. A couple of learnings from installation: #1. Check the dimensions of the notch that needs to cut in the fascia. Using the adjacent tab on the car that receives the push pin as a reference to the actual receiver, I needed to shift my dimensions slightly, 1/8" to the left. There is really no harm in over-sizing the cut opening since it is on the underside of the bumper. #2. They may have pulled in properly when tightening, but I used a long screwdriver to hold the head of the carriage bolt that is inside the frame rail to make sure the square shoulder on the carriage bolt pulled in properly. #3. Finally, and this was the frustrating part for me...I did not pay close enough attention to each of the little plastic tabs on the fascia when reinstalling it, and the corner near the taillights did not clip in properly. I had to pull the fascia off more than once and bend the tabs with a small screwdriver while re-installing.

Also, I liked the etrailer install video for the 2024 Outback better, even though I have a 2025. I felt it was more detailed.

by:

Super easy to install. Installation v ideo is a must as the paper instructions leave a little to be desired. This is either the 3rd or 4th car I have installed this company’s products. All have top of the line.

by:

The video I watched before I installed the hitch was extremely helpful. The included instructions for the cutout were acurate and the end result wad what I was hoping for.

by:

The product is well made. It was heavier than I expected. The installation on my 2021 Subaru went very smoothly. Between the instructions that came with the product and the Video of how to install it on the product page there was no way I could make a mistake. And the final result was perfect. Overall the process of getting and installing this hitch was excellent

by:

Watched the videos ahead of time to weigh the installation options, those are well done and show the entire procedure so you can review install procedures in addition to the hitch features. Chose the Curt based on the ease of install procedures. The hitch was well packed with nothing poking out of the box upon arrival, hardware taped to the hitch so it does not get thrown away by mistake, and the instructions were correct. A+ for etrailer.

by:

Just opened. Looks great. Shop installed. Hitch was per directions. Wiring harness plug to subaru was not where it was supposed to be according to the directions. 3rd hitch from etrailer. Keep coming back when I get a different vehicle..

by:

Installed easily and took just under 2 hours to install. Will say video is very helpful but it does leave out the hardest to reach bolt which is the one next to the exhaust, need to hold it to the side while tightening the bolt.

Thanks for your transparency on what your experience was like! The photos are great, too.

by:

5 stars, so far. The hitch seems well made and fit perfectly on my 2025 Outback. The included instructions were fine, but not great. i didn't downgrade for that because there are plenty of resources online to help with installation. Etrailer offers videos, and a large national trailer rental company also has really nice instructional videos for installing hitches and wiring harnesses. Installation was rated as difficult, but it's not too bad with good instructions, proper tools, and a little mechanical aptitude. Time will tell how the hitch and finish hold up.

by:

Well made. Good etrailer video showing how to install. Works perfectly with bike rack.

by:

The hitch was a custom fit, and it is made in America. I ordered it on a Sunday night, and I had it by Thursday afternoon. I live in a semi-rural area, so UPS is usually a little slower by a day. But it got to me in one piece!

It was a little harder for me to install myself, so I took it to my mechanic because he has a lift. Really nice hitch.

by:

Arrived on time, and met all expectations. Installation video is excellent. Took less than 2 hours. Only issue was reinstalling the fascia panel, which took a few attempts to get it right.

by:

Straightforward installation instructions and took me less than 2 hours to install. Close to OEM receiver style at a third of the cost that is great for a bike rack and light towing.

by:

Always have had great experience with etrailer purchases in the past and this was no different. Videos for installation were spot on and very helpful.

by:

Receiver hitch was just as described and came in a timely fashion. Sturdy and well made.

  • Is The Curt Or EcoHitch Trailer Hitch Better for the 2020 Subaru Outback Wagon
The Curt Class III hitch part # C67JR and EcoHitch - 2020 Subaru Outback Wagon part # EH34FR are both very similar as far as looks go on the 2020 Subaru Outback Wagon. They are both hidden cross tube designs so the only part of the hitch that is visible once installed is the receiver. They also both install between the bumper and frame of the vehicle so the installation is pretty much the same. I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver because they install the same and look the same but...

Just so you know, there aren’t any aftermarket hitches for the 2024 Subaru Outback Wagon that actually go through the bumper you'd have to go with a factory (OEM) hitch if you want that. For the best ground clearance with an aftermarket option, I’d recommend the Curt Hitch part # C67JR.
