Features to know about

Built Strong for Everyday Towing: Class III 2" Hitch with 3,500 lbs GTW

This hitch is built for real-world hauling — small campers, boats, or utility trailers up to 3,500 lbs gross trailer weight and 350 lbs tongue weight. The fully welded, square-tube steel frame gives you solid support for everything from weekend towing to routine trips with a loaded trailer. Precision robotic welding keeps it strong and consistent for the long run.

Keep the Factory Look: Hidden Cross Tube with Clean Receiver Fit

If you care about a clean appearance, the concealed cross tube keeps the receiver tucked neatly under the bumper so only the 2" opening is visible. It blends right in and maintains a factory-style look while still giving you full Class III capability. You get solid performance without bulky hardware hanging below the vehicle.

No Welding. No Guesswork: Bolt-On Install Using Existing Frame Holes

Installation is straightforward — just bolt it onto existing frame points using the included mounting hardware. There’s no welding or drilling required, and it lines up cleanly with the factory holes for an easy DIY fit. Once tightened down, the hitch feels secure and ready to handle your bike rack, cargo carrier, or trailer ball mount.

Built to Last Through the Elements: Gloss Black Powder Coat Over Protective Base

The gloss black powder coat finish sits over a protective base layer that helps resist rust and corrosion. Whether it’s road salt in winter or mud on a trail weekend, this coating helps keep the hitch looking sharp and performing reliably year after year.

This fully welded trailer hitch receiver bolts onto your vehicle's frame with no welding required. Powder coated steel is sturdy and corrosion resistant.

by:

The instruction's and video made the installation clear and relatively easy. The end result is the same as if I had a professional install the hitch.

by:

The product was exactly as I expected, and it was easy to install with the supplied instructions. Plus, the hidden hitch looks good. The final look matched the website description.

Nice job on the install James. The hitch looks like it came with the vehicle. Now the real question is, what are you using it for!?

by:

The trailer hitch alined perfectly to existing factory mounts. Instillation could not have been easier. Fit and finish are excellent.

by:

Good instructions, installation went smooth. It took my son and I about 1 1/2 hours. Looks great and already have used my bike rack.

by:

Thank you for being there and helpful when I needed to order the correct hitch

by:

My second trailer hitch from etrailer, works like a charm. Very easy installation on a 2026 Subaru Outback. Instructions are very similar to the 2025 outback.

by:

Solid built receiver that works well. And the online install video does a great job walking through the whole process.

by:

Fits perfectly and easy to install. There are videos online for similar products that show how to easily remove the bumper, but instructions are included as well. There is no bumper cutting required on a 2026 Outback Limited. The only room for improvement is how the hitch is packaged for shipping. There are a few spots where the paint was damaged because the cardboard box doesn't protect the edges enough during shipping.

by:

It fits my 2022 Subaru Outback perfectly. The install took less than 2-hours with no issues. I'm mainly using it for a rack to carry my heavy fat tire e-mountain bikes. It's very solid and I am extremely satisfied with the purchase.

by:

I installed this hitch myself. It was a little more difficult than past hitches I have installed but the etrailer video for installing to my vehicle was very helpful. After installation, the hitch is concealed to the bumper profile and not a shin destroyer! Very pleased with this purchase.

by:

Installed on a 2025 Subaru Outback Premium.
First
things first, the provided videos were excellent for installing this thing, except for the exhaust. I wish there was more visuals for this.

A few things:

When removing the fasteners along the wheel well, take pictures of the layout. Knowing the black fabric goes on the inside was golden knowledge when I was later reattaching the fasteners.

When installing the carriage bolt, if you're having issues threading it through, you can bend the wire. You may have to unbend it though when you try to pull the bolt through. I was able to reuse the wire on the right side, but had to pull it off on the left side. Glad there's two.

Torquing the left carriage bolt was an entire endeavor and probably the most exhausting part of this. You need to remove the isolators, but without the exact right fit, I kept slipping.
Even with the isolators removed, the exhaust kept going to the right, pushing my torque wrench and preventing me from doing it correctly.
I eventually ratcheted it down to the left to keep it in place to finally have a good angle at the thing.

The fasteners are annoying to take out and place back in. I recommend using the pry tool and another small pry tool to wrangle each one out. Each one has a internal piece and an outer piece. I had best success with separating them, pushing the outer part in, then the inner piece.

I used Inkscape to design a page with the correct sizing. After cutting, there's about an 1/8" gap, which is great.
I used a Dremel rotary metal cutter to cut it out, then ground it down a bit.

by:

Good receiver- easy install- I put good thing to work recently during a big move! Never worried about the hitch

by:

Very easy to install very clean and clear videos no complaints whatsoever of this product.

by:

Easy install on my 2024 Outback Wilderness. This is the 3rd hitch I have bought and installed from etrailer.

by:

The hitch is very well built. Pretty easy to install. If you aren’t too familiar with taking off bumper fascia, use a second pair of hands, so you don’t scratch it. The final result looks good, most of the hitch is hidden nicely. The wiring kit was decent a little too short of a T connection. Would have been nice to have more length between the Curt harness connections on both the left and right sides.

Thanks for sharing all your pics with us, Anthony! The hitch does look nice tucked under your 2021 Legacy :)

by:

Works great, relatively easy to install especially after watching you tube video, takes patience when removing panels on my 2025 Subaru Outback. I purchased this for a bike rack and it works as it should, easy to put rack on and to take it off.

by:

2026 Subaru Outback Touring XT. The installation of the Curt Hitch #C67JR went smooth, no issues. It was a fairly easy install with basic hand tools however,it was time consuming (about 4hrs). The fit and finish is excellent and the shipping container was well packaged, no damage.

by:

Excellent quality, fit perfectly in place. Little nervous about dismantling the rear my new Outback (and my wife was more nervous still), but the video was very clear and complete. Only oddity was the bolts I took out to remove the bumper frame had 17mm head and the bolts supplied to replace them needed 11/16” wrench. Still, all parts needed were there, and the fish wires (I only needed one) were phenomenal, making what would have been the most frustrating part of the job almost comically simple.

I appreciate that you've clearly thought through everything you can provide to make installation easy and successful

Good job Grant, congratulations on your successful install!

by:

The trailer works as expected and I have been happy with it. Installation was pretty easy and the directions were easy to follow. Taking the bumper off was the hardest part, but that is a Subaru challenge more than a hitch challenge

by:

Arrived very quick. Time consuming process but not difficult. Online video was helpful. A second person is not necessary but makes it easier. Dimensions for the trim cut out are accurate but the picture does not tell you exactly where to start your cut. I prefer a measurement vs "looks like you start cutting about here". Measure twice, cut once.
purchased a similar one for my previous outback and that one held up very well. I have a bike rack that requires a 2" receiver. and may look into getting a kayak trailer. Love that you only see the receiver.

Holding up well. Still love that it has a tight profile, and you only see the receiver.

by:

5 stars, so far. The hitch seems well made and fit perfectly on my 2025 Outback. The included instructions were fine, but not great. i didn't downgrade for that because there are plenty of resources online to help with installation. Etrailer offers videos, and a large national trailer rental company also has really nice instructional videos for installing hitches and wiring harnesses. Installation was rated as difficult, but it's not too bad with good instructions, proper tools, and a little mechanical aptitude. Time will tell how the hitch and finish hold up.

After one year and very limited use, the hitch still looks great, although its mostly hidden, and it worked fine. While it doesnt really pertain to the hitch, heres some bonus content: I discovered that towing a golf cart on a trailer on the highway with my 4 cylinder Outback cost me about 10mpg.

by:

This hitch receiver is sturdy and it works like it's supposed to. I use it for my Kuat 2-bike rack for hauling mountain bikes and gravel bikes. The installation process was pretty easy to follow from the instructional video by the manufacturer. After 1 year of use, the black powder coat finish is still intact.

Glad it's still looking good and working well for you, Michael! What kind of bikes do you ride? My family was always riding GT back in the day and we had some pretty good rides we did in the mountains of Southern California.

by:

Clean install on 2021 Outback. Very clean look and fit very well. Couple of notes:
You can snake the carriage bolts though the tubes in the hitch easier than the frame access holes.
When you cut the underside of the number cover for clearance drill 3/8” holes at the corners and then cut the plastic to the holes leaving the outer curve of the hole intact. Square corners can create dress risers where the plastic can crack easier.

Very satisfied with the hitch and the customer service, would order from trailer again in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the tips, Kevin! Definitely helpful! ^___^ What are you going to be using this for now that it's on?

by:

Installed on a 2026 Subaru Outback Premium.
Instructions
were clear and easy to follow. Total time to install was about 75 minutes and was easily done by one person.

Installing the hitch did require cutting the removable trim piece of the bumper. The cut is not visible and is about 2.5 inches square.

I also installed the C59236 Curt Powered Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector.

by:

etrailer is excellent as an online retailer for auto parts. I’m disappointed that my Curt hitch didn’t precisely line up with the holes on my base model 2020 Subaru Outback. I had to make slight refinements to the factory holes with a dremel. The videos show a higher trim model than mine, so I’m guessing that maybe this was the issue. It was close enough, but slightly annoying.

So far, so good. The trailer still fits tight. There’s no rattle, rust, or chipped paint. We use it primarily to hold a Yakima bike rack that holds four bikes. All is well a year later.

  • Best Ground Clearance for a Hitch Installed on a 2025 Subaru Outback Premium
Hey Nick congrats on the new car! The bottom portion of the receiver for the Curt item # C69VV sits 11-3/4" above the ground when installed on your 2025 Subaru Outback Premium. If you're worried about ground clearance, I recommend installing the Curt item # C67JR, which sits 13-1/2" off the ground. What are you looking to use a hitch for?

None of our vendors have announced plans for a new hitch that mounts below the 2026 Outback. We'd have them available for preorder if one was in the works. Those style hitches have really gone away the last few years in favor for the more OEM style that hides as much of the hitch as possible. The Curt Hitch item # C67JR is custom fit for your...
